The Salvation Army Annual Report is a comprehensive report that is released every year to show what The Salvation Army of Greater New York has done to help the GNY community. The goal of the Annual Report is to show shareholders and donors the great work The Salvation Army is doing and to garner donations.
My goal with this project was to make it look more aesthetically pleasing than reports from previous years. To do this I first looked at National's Annual Report and taking elements which I liked and could incorporate to our report and things which I can improve upon.
One example of how I could distinguish the 2021 Annual Report and subsequent ones is by using the correct fonts throughout the booklet. Here are the fonts that were used:
These fonts were used to establish Typographical Hierarchy so that text was more legible. Trajan Pro was used for headings and Adobe Jenson Pro was used for paragraph text. The following images show this:
The typographical hierarchy was further established through the use of colors. For example, in the second photo, the title of the page is in Trajan Pro, and reads COVID-19 Impact with the primary color #EF3E42. The second text is also in Trajan Pro and reads Impact Report which is in the secondary color #000000, or black. Using colors, the hierarchy of heading and subheading is established.
Subheadings can also be distinguished by iconography. Each subheading has its own icon that shows what that section will talk about. For example:
The purpose of the icons is to also improve visual interest and grab the reader's attention. Icons are used frequently throughout the Annual Report such as on these pages:
As demonstrated in the examples above, the use icons, especially in infographics, makes it much easier for the reader to digest the information.
